Rome Shopping: KIDS' STUFF

Little Big Town
The largest kids' store in Italy, with more than 1,000 square meters of toys, games and musical instruments on three floors: dolls, electronics, accessories for fashionable little girls, the English "Marvin Magic" line. Experts in each demonstrate toys, games and music.
Via Cesare Battisti 120, Piazza Venezia
Open 10 am -8 pm, daily

Recently opened, carrying fun and whimsical clothing and accessories by Bensimon, Desigual and other European labels. A play area for the kids makes shopping easier.
Via della Pelliccia 45b (Trastevere) tel 340 6095420

Colorful, fun clothes for babies and little kids — shoes, gifts, toys. Carrying the French Sucre d'Orge line.
Via della Palombella, 22, tel. 06. 683 01975 (right behind the Pantheon)

Biancaneve e i sette nani
Aptly named after Snowhite and the Seven Dwarves, this is a hair salon for kids. The chairs are hobby horses and carousel creatures. The hairdresser is as kindly as a grandad.
Via Metastasio, 17 tel. 06.686 5409 (Pantheon)

Bonpoint Paris
Bonpoint, an exclusive French line of clothing from age zero to sixteen is haute couture for the young. This is not the place to shop for everyday play clothes.  Fabrics are the highest quality cottons and linens. The designs are not trendy, but give a bit of a modern edge to otherwise classic designs. Made exclusively in France.
Piazza Di S. Lorenzo in Lucina (historic center) tel 06687 15 48

La Cicogna
This exclusive chain of high end stores (la cicogna means "the stork") has long dominated the anno zero (infancy) early teen and special occasion kid’s market. Its one-stop shopping concept simplifies things for the parent with an impatient young customer at his or her side. Quality merchandise, well-trained and accommodating sales personnel.
Via Frattina, 138 tel. 06.678 6959 (Spanish Steps)
Via Cola di Rienzo, 268 tel. 06.689 6557 (Prati)

Cittá del Sole
Surely the best toy store in the city. There isn't an item for sale here you wouldn't be delighted to give your kids. Everything is thoughtfully arranged according to age; and most toys tap a child's natural curiosity, encouraging them to use their minds and to develop their creativity. Most of the items are neither expensive nor plastic. You can find wonderful train sets, puzzles and the like, crafted in wood, as well as updated versions of classic toys like yo-yo's, kites, and boomerangs and super-modern gadgets such as a digital weather station. Most items relate to the store’s theme of the natural elements: wind, light, sea and land.

Kid ’s Stock
This group of shops specializes in the perbene (classic, wel-heeled) look — nothing oversized or suggestive. Teenagers are in and out of the Via Vittoria location at the start of “Back to School,” collecting or fitting school uniforms for one of several italian private schools the store supplies. In other locations, a little more attention is given to a casual line. Denim or corduroy are likely trade-offs for more expensive fabrics.

A newish little shop that offers lovely silk and linen clothes for very elegant children.

Petit Bateau
Petit Bateau sells children’s clothing with that French certain well-dressed but casual style. At this shop, the entire line is represented so that you can outfit your chlld from underwear to outerwear without leaving the premises, making it a convenient place to shop, although the space becomes a bit cramped when the occupancy exceeds two adults and one child. Sizes zero and through 8 years. Pyjamas from zero – 16 years.

Pinco Pallino
Pinco Pallino's fashionable address next to Tiffany’s in Via del Babuino is notches away from the sneaker and jean culture of the young and restless. Designers and owners, Imelda and Stefano Cavalleri export their unique line of children’s fashion worldwide. With stores in Asia, the Middle East and Europe, their whimsical designs, a mix of tyrolean day wear with classic and contemporary cuts, cater to  the young globe trotter with a princely wallet.

Pure Gold
Leading names in fashion, like Roberto Cavalli are now designing down-sized versions of their own pret-a-porter lines for a booming retail market, ages 5 to 14. Pure Gold Boutique for girls only, is for “girls who wanna have fun” jazzing up their party frocks  in lace, satin, sequins and flowing diaphanous glam. The store’s kitsch design is the perfect foil for their  over-the-top wares.
Via del Babuino, 150/d    tel 06 323 5464

This children’s shop is on such a tiny vicolo, we only stumbled into it by happy accident. The wares are all fashions for the under age nine set, and all are made especially for the store — most of them by Rachele herself, who has set up her workshop there. Look for overalls in adorable fabrics, sweatshirts, pants and skirts. And don’t miss the colorful hand-crocheted hats.
Vicolo del Bollo, 6/7 (off Via del Pelllegrino) tel. 06.6864975 (near Campo de' Fiori)

In the shadow of the Pantheon, this shop is the home of the trendy Replay jeans line, which also includes jackets, printed shirts and accessories. For the trendy child in your life, there’s a Replay kid’s shop next door.

Via della Rotonda, 21 kids (Piazza della Rotonda, the Pantheon)

Zucca Stregata
The bewitched pumpkin, sells their own brand of blankets, bedroom slippers, pajamas, backpacks and accessories of all kinds, t-shirts and sweats, all in their signature prints, so charming they even make a few items for mom. Bunnies and elephants, kittens and birds dance across gingham checks.
